This amazing home birth is the outcome when a woman becomes inspired, educated, supported, loved, determined, angry (at past "care providers"), and most of all- empowered.

Determined to walk home from my hair appointment on a beautiful fall day became the inspiration for this piece, and an unexpected lesson on metaphors.

 My son, Owen Gray Barb, was born on Saturday March 22, 2008. He arrived exactly 2 weeks before his expected due date. Thursday was the vernal Equinox, Friday was the Full Moon. I planned throughout the pregnancy to have this baby early.....

The birth of my first son, Tayan Kane, after laboring at home, achieving natural birth in the hospital, and getting everything we wanted out of the birth, including a perfect kid.

The story of the birth of my daughter Kya, is one of great magic indeed! It begins with a great pregnancy that ended with a month of many unexpected discomforts, anticipation, patience, and several light contractions. Although the romantic in me would’ve loved to say that the full moon would bring the baby, I knew that the weather break would be the most influential factor. So, for weeks, I prayed hard for rain.
